France retain the jersey

France became the first country to hold on to the lead for a second day in the Generali European Open Teams Championship.

Italy, who is clearly not going to surrender the title easily, heads their pursuers. Then come Norway, Spain, Poland and Bulgaria.

Ireland, bringing back memories of the Championships of twenty years ago occupy seventh place. Could it be that they have been inspired by the articles from Lausanne that have been appearing in the Daily News? Greece deserve a mention for scoring 70 VPs on the day.

Denmark are back with a vengeance

After a few quiet years the Danish ladies are giving clear indications that they are back to their best. They are 8 points ahead of second placed Norway who perhaps surprised everyone but themselves by defeating one of the favourites Germany 25-5.

Netherlands is third; their total of 111VP is considered by some to be a portent of something surprising. Today's first match will tell us if it is good or bad news.

Only four points cover France, Great Britain and Sweden who occupy the other three qualifying places. It will be a big day for France, Denmark, Netherlands and Germany who face each other in a variety of head to head matches.

Poland lead the Seniors

Polish players have an outstanding record in Seniors Bridge so it is no surprise to see them at the top of the table after five rounds have been completed.
