Merik Tokan immediately thought in terms of a slam once West had opened the bidding. It seemed like a good idea to inhibit a club lead, hence her cunning bid of Three Clubs. Four Diamonds set the trump suit, and Four Spades showed a control in spades but not in hearts.

Declarer knew she would probably need to have to have some luck with partner's heart holding, and in the event, with a club lead by South now impossible to find, she had to guess the heart position. Still, as she said herself, 'I'm always lucky in ©games.'
