EUROPEAN WOMEN PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
This competition for European women players was established in 1987 at the initiative of EBL Women Committee Chairman Anna Maria Torlontano , and was held during the first days of the European Team Championships (filling the gap created by the late start of the women series; as this series usually attracts a smaller entry than the open, this arrangement aims at having the championship finishing simultaneously), every odd-numbered year. The competition was discontinued as a separate event in 2001, and as from 2003 it is incorporated in the European Open Champiosnhips . During the years that it was held in conjunction with the European Team Championship , the European Women Pairs Championship was dominated by Daniela von Arnim and Sabine Auken of Germany, who won the gold medal three times! |
