The Polish Juniors suffered a scare yesterday when
they lost 6-24 to Israel, to close the top of the rankings right
up, but they recovered with a 23-7 win over Croatia in the last
match of the day and, with just one round to play are 12 VPs clear
of second-placed Israel. The Israelis in turn head Hungary by 15.5
VPs, and the Hungarians have a fight on their hands to stay in the
medals, 3 VPs ahead of Norway. France should take the fifth qualifying
spot if they don't blow up in the last round. Should they falter,
Belgium, Netherlands or England could take advantage.
With two rounds to play Poland lead the Schools by
28.5 VPs. They must face second-placed Israel in the last round,
but may be home and dry by then. Netherlands lie third, 2.5 VPs
behiond Israel, while Norway could get into the medals if either
Israel or Netherlands falter.
