17th European Youth Bridge Team Championships

 

     

AntalyaThe 17th European Youth Bridge Team Championships will be held in Antalya, Turkey, from 6 to 16 July 2000.

The event comprises a Junior series (for players born in 1975 or later) and a Schools series (for players born in 1980 or later). It is open to national teams of the EBL member countries and is organized by the European Bridge League in cooperation with the Turkish Bridge Federation (Turkiye Bric Federasyonu).

The championships will be held at Hotel Talya, one of the most beautiful resorts in the Southeastern Mediterranean.

The tournament will be played in the Talya Convention Center, while full-board accommodation will be available to all players at the adjacent Talya Hotel.

NBOs should note that, owing to the limited number of rooms in Talya Hotel, a maximum of four rooms has been reserved for each team. If not taken by the deadline of 31 May, these rooms will be offered to interested parties, strictly in the order reservations have been received.

Format

17th European Junior Teams Championship

The Championship is open to all member countries of the EBL. Each country may be represented by one national team, consisting of 4-6 players, a non-playing captain and, possibly, other officials. The format of the Championship is a simple round-robin of 20-board matches.

After the Captains’ Meeting scheduled for 16.00 hrs, the Championship will start with the Opening Ceremony at 17.00 hrs on Thursday 6 July 2000, followed by dinner. The first session will be played at 21.00 hrs. As from Friday, three matches will normally be played every day, starting at 10.30, 15.00 and 20.30 hrs. Depending on the number of entries, some sessions may be left free for sightseeing, etc. The Championship will end with the Prize-giving Banquet on Sunday 16 July, 20.30 hrs. Departure is on Monday, after breakfast.

All players must have been born on or after 1 January 1975. Participation is by invitation only. The entry fee is SF 1,000 (Swiss francs) per team.

The winners of the Championship will receive the David Pigot Cup which they can keep for two years. The members of the first three teams will get silver replicas of the Cup (7 per team) and souvenir gifts. The top four teams will qualify to represent Europe in the 2001 World Junior Teams Championship.

4th European Schools Teams Championship

The Championship is open to all member countries of the EBL. Each country may be represented by one national team, consisting of 4-6 players, a non-playing captain and, possibly, other officials. The format of the Championship is a simple round-robin of 20-board matches.

There will be a Captains’ Meeting at 16.30 hrs on Monday 10 July 2000. The Opening Ceremony will follow at 19.00 hrs, while the first session will be played on Tuesday, at 10.30 hrs (at 20.30 hrs, Monday, if necessary). Three matches will normally be played every day, starting at 10.30, 15.00 and 20.30 hrs. Depending on the number of entries, some sessions may be left free for sightseeing, etc. The Championship will end with the Prize-giving Banquet on Sunday 16 July, 20.30 hrs. Departure is on Monday, after breakfast.

All players must have been born on or after 1 January 1980. Participation is by invitation only. The entry fee is SF 600 (Swiss francs) per team.

The winners of the Championship will receive the José Damiani Trophy which they can keep for two years. The members of the first three teams will get replicas of the Trophy (7 per team) and souvenir gifts.

  

Systems & Conventions

Systems
The Championships are classified in Category 3 of the EBL Systems Policy. Accordingly, all systems of bidding and card play may be used, with the exception of Highly Artificial Systems and Brown Sticker Conventions.

Convention Cards
Each pair must complete an official Convention Card and lodge it with the Appeals Committee. The card must be filled out using the WBF Convention Card Editor (version 2 for Windows - do not use the DOS version). The resulting file must be submitted to the Tournament Appeals Committee, preferably by E-mail.

Screens
Table screens will be used in both series throughout.
