• Participation The competition is reserved for the national champion teams of the 10 countries which ranked best in the Open Series of the 47th European Bridge Teams Championship, held in Malmö, June 2004, and in addition the defending champions, Tennis Club Parioli of Rome, Italy, and the host team Bridge House Club. The winner of the competition will be named 'European Champion Club'. They will earn the right to participate in the next edition of the tournament in 2005. The top 10 countries of the Open Series of the 47th European Bridge Teams Championship are:
• Format The teams are divided into two groups of six and in each group a complete round-robin of 20 boards will be played. At the end of the round-robin the first two ranked teams will play a knockout match of 48 boards in semifinal A, the third and fourth in semifinal B and the fifth and sixth in semifinal C. The winners of semifinal A will play a knockout match of 48 boards for the title; the losers will play a knockout match of 36 boards for third place. The winners of the semifinals B and C will play knockout matches of 36 boards, respectively, for fifth and ninth places; the losers of these semifinals will not play. Teams from the same country will have to meet in the semifinals. • Schedule
