 • Format

The Championships are open to all member countries of the EBL. Each country may be represented by one national team in each series, consisting of 4-6 players, a non-playing captain and, possibly, other officials. The format is a simple round-robin of 20-board matches.

 • Age Limit

On or after 1 January 1977

Schools Series

On or after 1 January 1982

Participation in both series is by EBL invitation only.

The Championships are classified in Category 3 of the EBL Systems Policy. Accordingly, all systems of bidding and card play may be used, with the exception of Highly Artificial Systems and Brown Sticker Conventions.

The publication of systems will be made electronically. Participants are requested to fill in their Convnention Cards, using the WBF Convention Card Editor, version 2 for Windows (do not use the DOS version). The software is available for downloading, free of charge, at <http://www.worldbridge.org/dept/systems/cce.htm>.

Each pair's Convention Card and Supplementary Sheets must be submitted (preferably by email) to the Chairman of the Tournament Appeals Committee before 15 June 2002.

  • Prizes

The winners of the Junior Championship will receive the David Pigot Cup which they can keep for two years. The members of the first three teams will get silver replicas of the Cup (7 per team) and souvenir gifts. The top four teams will qualify to represent Europe in the 2003 World Youth Team Championship.

The winners of the Schools Championship will receive the José Damiani Trophy which they can keep for two years. The members of the first three teams will get replicas of the Trophy (7 per team) and souvenir gifts.

• Special Regulations

Screens - Table screens will be used in both series throughout.

Dress Code - Teams are expected to be dressed appropriately during play, and especially at the ceremonies where uniform outfit, although not required, is strongly encouraged.

Not allowed - Smoking and alcohol drinking, as well as the use of mobile phones, pagers and any kind of electronic communication devices in the playing area are strictly prohibited.
