In July 2004, the European Women's Bridge Festival was held in Vienna, Austria. The venue was the magnificent and prestigious City Hall (Rathaus), and it is fair to say that the Festival has never been played in such an fantastic environment before. The Festival was a transnational event open to players from all over the world. For this reason, entry was not restricted to Europeans only, but was extended to include players from China, Dubai, India, Iran and Japan.
The motto of WBF President Jose Damiani 'Bridge for Peace' seemed to have been created for this event! It pictured exactly the real spirit of the Festival which was dominated by tolerance, friendship, mutual understanding, willingness to mix with people from other countries and socialize with them, play serious bridge in a very friendly atmosphere.
Warm thanks are due to the players and the city of Vienna which offered the opportunity of spending five unforgettable days in its legendary beauty.
